IV Therapy Overview: Our Intravenous (IV) Therapy Course is designed to meet the needs of a variety of healthcare professionals such as Licensed Vocational Nurses, Medical Assistants, healthcare students, pharmacy technicians or any practitioner who wishes to improve their clinical skills. The student will review knowledge objectives in the areas of basic anatomy and physiology, fluid/electrolytes, the physiology of fluid infusion, basic drug calculations and managing complications. The student will also learn central venous catheter line use and care. The student will practice on state-of-the-art equipment including infusion pumps. Students will practice the techniques in our Skill Lab to establish, maintain and discontinue an intravenous site, administer IV push, IV piggyback medications and blood. IV Therapy Course Hours: 9 1/2 IV Therapy Accreditations: This certificate is presented for successful completion of training in Intravenous Therapy. This course meets Type II Credit and allows for 6.8 Contact hours as allowed by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. IV Therapy Certification: A Completion Certificate is awarded to students upon successful completion of this course. IV Therapy Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course.
